About us:
The House of Italy (HOI) was founded in May, 1935 in
conjunction with the California Pacific International Expo in Balboa Park
along with several other international cottages. In December, 1941 the U.S.
Navy annexed the area. In August, 1948, at a grand ceremony, the cottages
were returned to the former occupants.
The current House of Italy was formed in 1968by a
small group of Italians meeting in local restaurants. In August, 1973 the
present House opened its doors and have remained opened ever since.
The objectives of the HOI remain: To preserve and
foster the art and culture of Italy; To promote a spirit of goodwill amongst
all nations and extend hospitality to all House visitors.
The House of Italy is located in the Hall of
Nations building. Please refer to the "MAP" tab below and find item # 19 on
the map.
